Using The New Site

Members

Let’s brainstorm here, about what a new website Members.Bucketworks.org would look like. The purpose of having it is manifold:

  • Give members their own wikigroups with homepages
  • Provide info to Members that the whole public doesn’t need to see on the General Bucketworks.org site
  • (most important to Tegan) create a structure for members to communicate with one another, growing the Bucketworks Community

Ideas for some parts of the site:

Announcements

• (B2M) Bucketworks to Members

Bucketworks Events, Membership Information. Most of this stuff would probably be on the General Bucketworks site, but we’d have links to it from Membership.Bucketworks:

  • link to the calendar/events page
  • guest policy posted somewhere
  • be sure to announce new sign in policy when that is in place
  • link to a page about the recent renovations
  • What’s Happening @ Bucketworks

• (M2M) Member-to-Member

Offers

  • M2M

Questions

  • M2M
  • M2B
  • B2M

Requests

  • M2M
  • M2B
  • B2M

Discussion

  • along the same vein of members contributing to the page, should there be a forum for them to make their own announcements, posts about gigs and shows, etc.? Is that all covered by the announcements we want to make to them, or should it be a separate thing altogether? (I think they should be separate, but connected, maybe linked to one another)
  • Possibly an integrated forum. Tegan is looking at technical options. But even if a forum, also wiki.

Recommendations

  • read
  • go
  • do (an events calendar for the region)
  • surf (shared links)
  • eat

Site tools

  • site navigation info
  • about the wiki, the way it works, where to find formatting rules, etc.

other ideas:

AirSet to handle some of this, like the calendar and links?

It would serve everyone well to have classified ads on the BW wiki, related to projects people have in the works for which their seeking to network, etc. For instance - an artist seeking a mentor, a playwright seeking a ghostwriter, a creative ensamble seeing more ensamblage, etc. This could also serve to hook freelancers up with possible work op’s, etc. Is this in any way feasible? If yes, this is something I’d volunteer to manage, since it’s computer based I could do it from home.

I think this is a great idea, Monica. We could easily start with postings on a specific page. I always need help with finding technical people for shows for example, and people could “advertise” the projects they want to get started. What else where you thinking of? — Matt

The usual I guess - things that serve the members as a community - like stuff for sale/trade, roommates, rideshares. A free way for members to solicit/advertise freelance services. Audition/collaboration calls for projects and performances. And a little of the unusual - maybe a category just for brainstorm collaborators, Q&A about about art processes and techniques, babysitting co-ops for parents who need to make art in order to stay sane. The idea came to me out of the blue and I decided to throw it out there. I think there should be more of a push to get members using the wiki because it could really be a valuable connectivity tool, and this would be a good way to encourage it. Is it possible to integrate some kind of a forum system into the wiki? I’m sure Jer would know, when I see him I’ll ask him about it too. Thanks for your reply!

If anyone wants to take a stab at this, just go ahead! I just made http://www.bucketworks.org/Members/HomePage - go organize it/add categories, add example material - I’ve already been talking to James and Mel about overhauling the website, and one thing we’re going to have is a Members.Bucketworks.org website - which will 1) give every member and member-organization a wikigroup/HomePage, and 2) have ways for members to connect with each other. Monica’s ideas are terrific. Janine Arseneau talked about how she’d like to be able to have the “Bucketworks Experience” continue over the internet - so for example, after seeing a play, or a show in the gallery, you could get on the site and discuss it.

A member-to-member thing is essential, but we definitely need ideas for how to structure it etc. Go throw stuff on there!
