Alan Kopischke Leaves Bucketworks Board

Alan Kopischke has resigned from the board of directors. Alan was president of the board until last year, when he became Vice President and Lynnea Katz Petted joined our board as President. Alan was one of Bucketworks’ first major school contacts, working with Matt Kemple and James Carlson on projects at Elm Creative Arts School. Alan’s contributions and leadership have catapulted Bucketworks to a new level for the last four years, and we look forward to celebrating our future achievements with him.

Matt Kemple Departs Bucketworks Staff

Matt Kemple left Bucketworks on March 16. Matt Kemple joined Bucketworks in July of 2004, bringing incredible talent and friendliness to our staff. Matt’s work and play brought theatre to life at Bucketworks and in Milwaukee at large. His development of the Bucketworks Theatre Program, which continues to accelerate the success of startup and established theatre groups, and his introduction of the Milwaukee Sketch Fest, are only two of Matt’s most celebrated achievements. Matt continues to support Bucketworks through his technical support to the new Quasi Cafe, and his new theatrical work with John Schneider at the Boys and Girls Clubs.

Christopher Berry Joins Bucketworks Staff

David Johnson has brought on Christopher Berry, an intern on work study from MATC, who has chosen a work placement at Bucketworks! Christopher is passionate about film and video, especially animation, and is looking forward to learning about the business side of the creative industry. He is paid to work at Bucketworks, and will be helping us with events, our front desk, and general maintenance. We also hope to challenge his film and video skills by asking him to make us a video tour of Bucketworks.

David Johnson has filled our summer calendar with three inner-city youth-focused arts programs that make use of Bucketworks every day of the week from morning to evening! Olsen Arts, TBEY, and Vertical Essence bring the best of theatre, visual arts, and dance to young people from Milwaukee.



Milwaukee Spotlight Receives 38 Student Movies

20070301-Film Festival Starts Judging Submissions

The Milwaukee Spotlight Student Film Festival has received 38 movie submissions from around the country, all created by youth in high-schools from New York to California and from Wisconsin to Texas. Dominic Inouye and the rest of the judging team have begun the judging process and will announce the winners on April 1st.

Milwaukee Grows Milwaukee

20070228-North East Plan-Plan Advisory Group Meeting

On Feb 28, Milwaukee citizens and civic officials collaborated to create the North East Plan: Plan Advisory Group Meeting at Bucketworks, posting maps of the city and other supporting information on our walls. The event was organized in part by Teig Whaley-Smith, director of the King Drive BID, the Department of City Development, and an outside consulting company. Participants used the large tables in the Playspace to discuss the transformation of an important Milwaukee district.

Dynamic All-Starz, a Bucketworks member company for most of 2006, recently graduated from our program to its own facility, which is located at address needed— anyone know it? We are very happy to have hosted the growth of Dynamic All-Starz and wish them success in their new ventures.
